Riznica

Riznica is, in Croatian, a place to keep treasures. And as I consider Nature to be our greatest treasure, I created this account. Here I will add my photos of any living being, whether it was taken in the Nature itself, or in the Zoo or even domesticated animals and plants. This account is more of informational type, as I will add Latin names to the beings, where applicable and will add some interesting data on them – be it scientific, popular or even come from some legends or have symbolism to certain cultures. I am biologist-ecologist by profession, but Nature is more to me – it is the ultimate Divine.

Note that this is not an artistic gallery, and many photos are not great - the purpose of the gallery is not to impress you but to show you some plants and animals, and share some info on them. If I manage to make better photos, the ones in the gallery will be replaced.
If you have some info on the plant or animal that you wish to share, feel free to leave a comment or even better send me a note and I will add it in the description with a credit to the author.

To see what my colleagues and me do for the Nature in Croatia, visit: State Institute for Nature Protection

If you don’t know that yet and stumbled on this gallery from other place, feel free to visit my main account

You might need stock photos, and for that purpose I have a stock account too:

And for those that may be interested in seeing photos from my travels, where you may find landscapes, but also architecture and people, please do visit my voyages account at:

I hope you will enjoy this one, and I expect to learn more info on some beings from you too. I will sometimes be asking for additional info, and I hope some of you might be able to help.

All the nature lovers might find some of the following clubs interesting:
