Lavanda ili despik/Lavender
It is also known as Lavandula officinalis and L. vera. It is not native to Croatia, here naturally grows Lavandula latifolia but is very rare - most common are lavandines, Lavandula x hybrida, bred in various cultivars of which the most common is 'Budrovka'. They are all hybrids between L. angustifolia an dL. latifolia. The difference, except in appearance, is in the essential oil composition. L. angustifolia contains lots of esters, esp linalyl aceatae, and L. latifolia some alcohols. Each compound has specific uses, but for the parfumes, higher values of esters are required as they have soft flowery scents with calming effect, while alcohols have sharper scents but are excellend for disinfection.
Lavender oil hes disinfecting properties, but also helps skin regeneration so it's good on burns and cuts. Even with larger wounds, it's good to put a drop or two on the outside of the cover, but in fact this is the only essential oil that may be used directly on the skin, in small amounts of course. Only flowers are used for essential oil extraction.
